Learning in the Arts: At the Heart of What Matters for 21st Century Success . . . Every Student, Every School, Every Day.
October 18, 2006

The Learning in the Arts Cyberconference was a first of its kind event for all that are involved in teaching. This Visual and Performing Arts Cyberconference focused on the following topics:

  • The function, purpose, and use of the Visual and Performing Arts Framework
  • Arts education as an integral part of core curriculum for all students in California
  • Diverse models of rigorous, sequential, and comprehensive arts education K-12
  • Information and updates about new state resources and funding for arts instruction
  • The arts as a research-based reform strategy for improving results in low-performing (SAIT/PI) schools and districts

The morning session was broadcast from San Bernardino to local and regional sites across the state. It featured an introduction to the foundational principles of powerful arts instruction; examples of model programs and inspiring student learning across the arts; motivating speakers; and opportunities to respond and reflect.

The afternoon presentations focused on identifying the implications arising from the morning session and on framing a local response in terms of next steps. An onsite facilitator guided the entire day. Participants received Cyberconference materials along with a DVD that captures the morning broadcast.
